Summary

To understand lung health and disease, development of the human lung and its repair following injury, scientists need to mimic human lung tissue as closely as possible. However, the lung is such a complex organ that it requires the use of a range of advanced culture models to capture this. The introduction of air-liquid interface, lung-on-chip and organoid culture models offers powerful tools for studying human lung development, function and disease.
