Meet the SciAni team – Sophie Bellamy

Get to know Sophie Bellamy, one of our scriptwriters and editors here at SciAni.

How long have you been at SciAni and how did you get into writing/scriptwriting?

I’ve been with SciAni for four years, but I’ve always been an avid writer. I studied journalism at university and went straight into a career in digital marketing. I’ve been producing videos and writing scripts for ten years, starting with commercial ads and marketing material before moving to SciAni.

Do you also enjoy writing in your spare time?

I love writing in my spare time. I have a (poorly maintained) travel blog and I write for other travel advice platforms. I’m also in the process of publishing my first book based on my project promoting positive body image.

What’s your favourite book and why?

I’m a huge reader so it’s difficult to pick just one favourite. Two recent standouts for me are Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. I’m currently reading The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson and it’s the type of book where I highlight dozens of passages because they’re so beautiful I don’t want to forget them.

What’s your favourite place you’ve travelled to and why?

Travel is my greatest love and I’m lucky enough to work remotely. I’m writing this from Serbia, which is my 53rd country. I’m currently in Belgrade and it’s a city that has surprised me (in a very good way). My favourite place that I’ve lived so far is Mexico City. It’s huge and overwhelming and completely addictive. The best place I’ve ever visited is the Amazon jungle. Its vastness and natural beauty are difficult to comprehend, and it truly felt like a once in a lifetime experience. Did you know they have pink dolphins there!? Incredible.
