Summary

This video is intended to educate rural arsenic exposed populations so that they are aware of the risks of arsenic exposure from food and drinking water.

This stems from the research conducted by Debapriya Mondal with collaborators in Bihar, India funded by DST-UKIERI.

How to remove arsenic and reduce the health risk is the key message.

Researcher Profile

Successfully drawn on work from different fields of environmental sciences, with particular interest in effects of arsenic contamination on human health, Priya Mondal, an environmental epidemiologist has over ten years’ experience of working on arsenic problems in India. Collaborating with partners from Bihar we conceived this project- Nature and nurture in arsenic induced toxicity of Bihar, India (Nutri-SAM) to understand if dietary correlates which often depend on socio-demographic and lifestyle factors can impact arsenic induced toxicity in Bihar exposed populations.
The team comprises of researchers with very diverse background from University of Salford, University of Manchester, A.N College Patna and Mahavir Cancer Research Institute. Indian team comprising of Prof Singh, Dr Bose and Dr Kumar under the guidance of Prof Ashok Ghosh has been researching the scale of this arsenic problem in Bihar for last two decades and hence have unmatchable experience and knowledge"
