Obstetric fistula is an immense health problem, mostly affecting women in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. It is usually caused by a difficult or obstructed labour, mostly due to the lack of access to appropriate obstetric care. The University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Urology Institute aims to change this by promoting collaboration between surgeons and organizations and by sharing our surgical experience with local surgical professionals.

Researcher Profile

Rachel Pope is an OB/GYN who spent several years living in subSaharan Africa working with and training junior surgeons. Rachel is developing this program to enhance virtual education when individuals are at rural postings or do not live near a surgical mentor.
