Concomitant surgical left atrial appendage occlusion prevents strokes in patients with AF
Summary
Removal or occlusion of the left atrial appendage during cardiac surgery has been hypothesized to prevent thromboembolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). To confirm this hypothesis, a team of researchers around the world conducted a multicentre, randomized trial involving 4811 participants with atrial fibrillation who were scheduled to undergo cardiac surgery for other reasons.
