Summary

Pressure injuries are caused by prolonged pressure on the skin and are of particular concern in nursing homes. Regular repositioning of a resident every 2 hours is the universally accepted approach. The TEAM-UP cluster randomized clinical trial, found that if the nursing home is using high-density foam mattresses repositioning of patients can safely extend up to 4-hours for most residents without compromising pressure injury incidence. A causal link was not established between repositioning interval treatments and PI outcome.
