School funding in New Orleans

After Hurricane Katrina, most public schools in New Orleans were converted to independently-run charter schools. Currently, information on the limited resource’s schools purchase to serve students with special characteristics, such as students with disabilities and English Language Learners, is not centrally collected. This makes it difficult to understand what support services are needed, their true cost and how schools can maximize their limited resources to meet the needs of the most vulnerable students.
