Summary

Standard commercial electron microscope calibrators do not measure nonlinearities, correct drift in real time, or provide sub-meV calibration precision, leading to potentially ambiguous results. EPFL’s novel QCAL electron energy loss (EELS) spectrometer calibration device relies on quantum entanglement and phase-matching of electrons and photons. QCAL is up to three orders of magnitude more precise than conventional calibrators, while also correcting for nonlinearities and drift.
